A cloud of grief has engulfed Irondi Village in Birongo Ward, Nyaribari Chache, after 16-year-old Delphine Moraa, who had been missing since July 12, was found dead in a roadside hole near her home.
Delphine, the daughter of Tom and Jack, disappeared after being sent to buy milk from a nearby shop on the evening of Sunday, July 12. According to her parents, Delphine had a mental health condition but was a Grade 9 student. She left home for the errand but never returned, prompting her family, neighbours, and local residents to launch a desperate search.
After days of searching, Delphine's body was discovered in a hole approximately 300 metres from her home, sending shockwaves through the community. Residents have expressed deep sorrow and are demanding a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.
Assistant Chief of Irondi Village, Beatrice Ngoge, confirmed that the family reported Delphine missing immediately after her disappearance and that the matter was escalated to the relevant authorities.
"The parents reported that Queen was missing, and I immediately reported the matter to the authorities to help in the search and investigations," said Assistant Chief Beatrice Ngoge.
She also urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant and prioritize the safety of their children, particularly during the ongoing school holiday.
"Parents should take good care of their children and avoid leaving them in unsafe environments or sending them to stay with relatives without ensuring their safety," she advised.
Police have launched investigations to establish the cause of Delphine's death and determine the circumstances that led to the tragic incident as the community awaits answers.
