Seynabou Mbengue scored the decisive goal in the 34th minute, finishing from close range after connecting with a cross from Ndeye Awa to hand Senegal their first victory of the tournament.
Kenya fought hard to get back into the contest, with goalkeeper Lilian Awuor producing several impressive saves to keep the Starlets in the game. However, Beldine Odemba's side failed to convert the chances they created, with striker Tereza Engesha missing two clear one-on-one opportunities in the second half.
The defeat follows Kenya's 4-0 loss to hosts Morocco in their tournament opener, leaving the Starlets rooted at the bottom of Group A with no points, no goals scored and a goal difference of minus five after two matches.
Morocco lead the group with six points, while Algeria and Senegal are tied on three points, leaving Kenya facing a difficult path to the quarter-finals.
The Starlets must now beat Algeria in their final Group A match on August 3 and hope other results work in their favour. Morocco would need to defeat Algeria, while Kenya would require a convincing victory to improve their goal difference in a possible three-way tie on three points.
Kenya is making only its second appearance at the Women's Africa Cup of Nations and its first since 2016 after qualifying with a 4-1 aggregate victory over The Gambia. With one group match remaining, Coach Beldine Odemba's side will be aiming to secure their first points and first goal of the tournament while keeping their slim qualification hopes alive.
