Kassim Abdi Sebo has denied an assault charge at the Kisii Law Courts, a day after reportedly pleading guilty, with his defence team alleging that he was tortured while in police custody.

Sebo is accused of assaulting Maurice Auko, also reported as Maurice Ouko, in an incident that allegedly occurred at Homa Bay Bus Terminus on July 9, 2026.

The case took a new turn after Sebo changed his plea from guilty to not guilty, raising questions about the circumstances surrounding his initial admission.

His lawyers alleged that he had been subjected to torture while in police custody and denied access to legal representation. They also raised concerns about his treatment and access to medical care.

The allegations have not been independently established, and the circumstances surrounding the reported mistreatment remain subject to verification.

The charge against Sebo is assault causing actual bodily harm, contrary to Section 251 of the Penal Code.
Following the court proceedings, the court ordered that he remain in custody as a pre-bail report was prepared.

He was also directed to receive medical attention at Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital.
The matter is scheduled for mention on October 19, 2026, as the court continues to address the case.

The developments are likely to bring renewed attention to the handling of suspects in police custody, particularly allegations of torture and denial of access to legal representation.

The case remains before the court, and the allegations against Sebo have yet to be determined through the judicial process.
