With just one year to the 2027 General Election, residents across Kisii County are raising concerns over the high cost of living, leadership performance and unmet promises, while calling for greater accountability from elected leaders.

In Kitutu Chache South, residents acknowledged some development projects but said rising prices of food, transport and essential services continue to weigh heavily on households. Some blamed both national and local leadership for failing to address the economic pressures facing families.
“The government has led to high cost of living. Some leaders have failed us, and that failure is what we feel every day when we go to the market or try to pay school fees,” one resident said.

Residents also expressed concerns about electoral integrity, saying they would turn out to vote and personally safeguard their ballots despite what they described as incomplete trust in the IEBC.
Across Kisii, residents identified the cost of living as their biggest concern, alongside healthcare, infrastructure, youth unemployment and agricultural support. In Nyaribari Chache, voters said they were ready to participate in large numbers and choose leaders based on performance rather than handouts.
“We will not look at money. We will choose leaders who are ready to meet our expectations,” another resident said.
While some residents recognised ongoing projects such as road and school improvements, many argued that these gains have not eased the daily financial burden on households.

As the countdown to 2027 continues, residents say they will closely scrutinise candidates, reject money politics and judge leaders by tangible results. The message emerging from the constituencies is clear: voters want action, accountability and leaders who can deliver.
