NANDY FINED TSH3 MILLION BY BASATA OVER OUTFIT AT MISS UNIVERSE TANZANIA FINALE
Tanzanian singer Nandy has been fined TSh3 million by BASATA over what the council described as indecent dressing during her performance at the Miss Universe Tanzania 2026 finale.

Tanzanian singer Faustina Charles Mfinanga, popularly known as Nandy, has been fined TSh3 million by the National Arts Council of Tanzania (BASATA) over what the council described as an indecent outfit worn during her performance at the Miss Universe Tanzania 2026 finale.
According to BASATA, Nandy committed an ethical offence by wearing clothing that it considered inappropriate and disrespectful to viewers during the event held at Haddypo Hall in Dar es Salaam.
The council said Nandy admitted to the offence during the proceedings. She subsequently removed the video of the performance from her social media platforms and paid the TSh3 million fine.
Following compliance with the decision, BASATA allowed Nandy to continue with her artistic activities, but under the council's supervision.
The action comes after BASATA summoned Nandy and several other entertainment industry figures on September 22, 2026, although the council did not initially disclose the reasons for the summons.
BASATA also took action against Millen Privé & Co. Lifestyle Limited, the organiser of Miss Universe Tanzania. The company was fined a further TSh3 million and issued with a stern warning over the incident involving Nandy.
The council has urged artists and other players in Tanzania's creative industry to comply with the country's laws, regulations, guidelines and artistic standards when carrying out their activities.
The latest action is part of a wider disciplinary move by BASATA. The council also fined Bongo Flava singer Harmonize TSh5 million over his "Kudos" music video and took action against the video's director over alleged violations of artistic and ethical regulations.
The TSh3 million fine is approximately KSh147,000 using the exchange-rate conversion cited in some Kenyan reports, although the Kenya-shilling equivalent varies with the exchange rate used.
