TEN-MAN GOR MAHIA REACH CECAFA CLUBS CUP FINAL AFTER PENALTY SHOOTOUT DRAMA Kigali, Rwanda.

The Kenyan Premier League champions will face the winner of the second semi-final between Rwanda’s Rayon Sports and South Sudan’s Jamus FC. The final is scheduled for later this week in Kigali.

Gor Mahia took the lead in the 34th minute through an own goal by Al Hilal defender Steve Ebuela. Ansumana Samura equalized for the Sudanese side 10 minutes later. The score remained 1-1 through 90 minutes and the subsequent 30 minutes of extra time.

Jackson Dwang was sent off for Gor Mahia in the 99th or 100th minute of extra time after receiving a second yellow card, leaving the Kenyan side with 10 players for the remainder of the match and the shootout.

In the penalty drama, Gor Mahia converted eight of their kicks to Al Hilal’s seven. Goalkeeper Bryne (or Bryn) Omondi played a key role, including saving at least one attempt and converting one himself.

Gor Mahia, the 2025/26 FKF Premier League champions, are seeking their fourth CECAFA Kagame Cup title and first since 1985. They topped Group A earlier in the tournament, which is being hosted in Rwanda. Al Hilal had advanced as one of the best-placed runners-up.

The result marks a resilient performance by coach Charles Akonnor’s side, who had already navigated a group-stage red card to Alpha Onyango (who missed the semi-final through suspension) and other absences through injury and illness.
