The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) is reviewing its Career Progression Guidelines in a move expected to create more opportunities for teachers to advance in their careers.
The proposed changes seek to address career stagnation and provide clearer routes for professional growth.
Under the revised framework, teachers could have two main career pathways.
One pathway would allow teachers to progress while remaining in classroom teaching, while the other would provide opportunities to move into administrative and leadership positions.
The changes would give experienced classroom teachers an opportunity to rise through the ranks without necessarily moving into management.
TSC says promotions will consider factors such as professional competence, qualifications, experience and performance.
The review is also expected to make career progression more responsive to teachers' professional needs and improve opportunities for advancement.
However, the revised guidelines are still undergoing the review process and should not be treated as fully implemented until TSC formally approves and releases them.
The move comes amid continued calls for better career opportunities and improved welfare for teachers across the country.
