ZINEDINE ZIDANE NAMED NEW HEAD COACH OF FRANCE NATIONAL TEAM Paris

The French Football Federation (FFF) officially appointed Zinedine Zidane as head coach of the France national team on Tuesday, July 28, 2026.

Zidane, 54, succeeds Didier Deschamps and has signed a four-year contract until the 2030 FIFA World Cup. He will begin his role on August 1, 2026.
FFF President Philippe Diallo made the announcement at a press conference in Paris, stating that Zidane will lead the team for the next four years. Zidane is expected to present his coaching staff in early September. His first match in charge is scheduled for September 25, 2026, in the UEFA Nations League against Turkey.
Zidane said at the presentation: “I refused all other offers for the France team. It is a dream to coach the Bleus.”
The move had been widely anticipated since Deschamps confirmed he would step down after the 2026 World Cup, where France finished fourth.
Zidane played 108 times for France between 1994 and 2006, scoring 31 goals. He was a key figure in France’s 1998 World Cup and 2000 European Championship victories.
