Kenya’s Junior Stars have been eliminated from the CECAFA Under-17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers following a 2-0 defeat to Somalia on Wednesday, October 14, 2026.

The match, played at Kigali Pele Stadium in Rwanda, marked Kenya’s second consecutive loss in Group C, leaving the team’s campaign in danger of ending without a point.

The defeat came four days after Kenya opened its campaign with a 2-0 loss to Tanzania on October 10, putting the team under pressure ahead of the Somalia encounter.

However, the Junior Stars were unable to recover against Somalia, suffering another setback that ended their hopes of advancing in the competition.

The CECAFA qualifiers bring together teams from the region competing for places in the continental Under-17 tournament. The matches provide young players with an opportunity to gain international experience and showcase their talent.

Kenya will now be left to reflect on its disappointing campaign as attention turns to improving preparations and results in future youth competitions.
