Kenya’s national women’s team endured a difficult start to their 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations campaign, falling 4-0 to tournament hosts Morocco in their Group A opener.

Morocco took control of the contest from the outset, with Sakina Ouzraoui opening the scoring in the 19th minute before Meriem Atiq doubled the lead nine minutes later. Ibtissam Jraidi added a brace, scoring in the 31st and 49th minutes, as the Atlas Lionesses secured a commanding victory to move top of Group A with three points and a superior goal difference.

The result leaves Kenya at the bottom of Group A with zero points and a goal difference of -4 after the first round of matches.
In the other Group A fixture, Algeria defeated Senegal 2-0 to also collect three points. Morocco lead the standings with a goal difference of +4, followed by Algeria on +2. Senegal are third, while Kenya sit fourth after both teams lost their opening matches. 
Kenya will now face a must-win encounter against Senegal in their second group match on Thursday, July 30, with kickoff scheduled for 8:00 p.m. East Africa Time. A loss would leave the Harambee Starlets on the verge of elimination from the tournament.
Morocco, meanwhile, launched their bid to win the continental title on home soil with an emphatic victory and will look to build momentum in the coming fixtures.
