Musician and businessman KRG The Don has declared his readiness to face Winnie Odinga in the race for the Nairobi senatorial seat ahead of the 2027 General Election.
KRG made his position known in a social media post, challenging those interested in the Nairobi Senate seat to prepare for a competitive contest.
The development comes a day after Winnie Odinga announced her intention to contest the Nairobi Senate seat during the first anniversary commemoration of her late father, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, in Bondo, Siaya County, on October 15, 2026.
Winnie, who currently serves as a member of the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA), is seeking to transition into elective politics at the national level through the Nairobi senatorial seat.
KRG, whose real name is Stephen Karuga Kimani, has also expressed interest in the position and has been associated with Mike Sonko's National Economic Development Party (NEDP).
His declaration adds to the growing list of political figures positioning themselves for the Nairobi Senate contest ahead of the 2027 polls.
The Nairobi senatorial seat is currently held by Edwin Sifuna, who was elected in the 2022 General Election.
The emerging contest is expected to attract attention as aspirants begin positioning themselves for party nominations and the general election.
However, the final lineup of candidates will depend on the nomination processes and the formal submission of candidates to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
With the 2027 elections approaching, KRG The Don's declaration and Winnie's entry into the race have added a new dimension to the contest for Nairobi's Senate seat.
