Kisii University Vice-Chancellor Empowers Students with Career Advice

Kisii University Vice Chancellor, Prof. Nathan Ogechi, recently addressed the critical issues surrounding career guidance and the increasing cost of university education. In his comprehensive speech, he highlighted the importance of career guidance for students and voiced concerns over the escalating fees, which are becoming increasingly burdensome for students and their families.

Prof. Ogechi emphasized that career guidance is essential in shaping the future of students. He pointed out that many students enter university without a clear understanding of their career paths, leading to mismatches between their skills and job market demands. This gap often results in underemployment or unemployment among graduates.

"Effective career guidance helps students make informed decisions about their education and career paths. It ensures that they pursue courses that align with their interests, strengths, and market needs, ultimately leading to a more fulfilling and successful professional life."said Prof. Ogechi.

He stressed the need for universities to invest in robust career guidance programs, which should include personalized counseling, exposure to various career options, and opportunities for internships and practical experiences.

Prof. Ogechi also addressed the pressing issue of rising university fees, which has become a significant concern for students and their families. He acknowledged the confusion and frustration that many are experiencing due to the frequent increases in tuition and other associated costs.

"The cost of university education has been increasing at an alarming rate," Prof. Ogechi noted. "This trend is making it difficult for many students to afford higher education, potentially denying them the opportunity to pursue their academic and career aspirations."

He explained that the rising costs are driven by several factors, including inflation, the need for universities to maintain high standards of education, and the investments required for infrastructure and technology upgrades. However, he also called for a balanced approach to ensure that education remains accessible to all.
