Nyamira teacher ends his life after allegedly losing cash on aviator
A high school teacher in Nyamira Boys High School on Thursday died by suicide after he reportedly lost over Ksh. 30,000 on aviator.
According to the assistant area chief Mr. Johnson Manyara, he received the news yesterday morning about the incident and rushed there to validate.
“I’m the assistant chief in Nyamira Township. I was called today that one of the Nyamira Boys teachers has hanged himself inside his crib where he stays. I arrived there and verified that the teacher had ended his life” said the assistant chief.
The assistant chief added that the slain teacher had borrowed money from his colleague and used the cash to gamble.
“His name is kelvin omwenga and he’s around 30 years. He had scrounged money from his friends and used the cash to try to multiply it through aviator. Unfortunately aviator flew away with his borrowed money. Through the own-generated stress and thoughts, he made the move to die by suicide” added Mr. Manyara.
Speaking to the media, one of Omwenga’s colleagues added that he had been crippled financially before he died.
“He’s been struggling financially and he had told me that he had accumulated debts but he assured me that he’ll pay them slowly.” Said his fellow teacher.
“Omwenga has been up to his tasks in this school. He only failed to turn up to school and teachers raised concerns” said another teacher.
“They found the house locked from inside but the phone was still ringing but he was not answering,” a teacher said.
Police officer arrived at the scene and took his body to Nyamira referral hospital.
