Ruto, Uhuru hold talks over exit package dispute

President William Ruto has today held talks via the phone with the ex-president Uhuru Kenyatta over the rising allowance disputes.

According to State House spokesperson Hussein Mohamed, President Ruto spoke to the retired president regarding his retirement package.

“This morning, President William Ruto had a conversation with his predecessor in office, the 4th President, President Uhuru Kenyatta, regarding concerns about facilitating the functioning of the retired President’s office” he said.

“President Ruto has consequently constituted a team, led by the Head of Public Service, to immediately address all the issues raised, including the location of the retired President’s office and the attendant staff establishment” added the spokesperson.

The talks on the allowance dispute comes a day after the fourth president of Kenya (Uhuru Kenyatta) through his spokesperson Kanze Dena disclosed some various issues that the current government is mandated to do as per the law but it has failed.

One of the concern that the office of the forth president required attention was that his workers were being intimated by the Kenya Kwanza government.

“There is unceremonial withdrawal and intimidation of staff via phone calls at midnight. They were being called at night but we also have to protect our people. Sometimes we get multiple calls of different instructions late at night” she alleged.

While also addressing the current spokesman Hon. Isaac Mwaura’s claims, Kanze Dena said that retired president is yet to receive new vehicles as enshrined in the constitution.

"Former President Uhuru Kenyatta is yet to enjoy fully furnished and maintained office. He is yet to receive new vehicles as stipulated in the Presidential Retirement Benefits Act." She said

Kanze Dena also added that the Kenya Kwanza government refused to fuel the ex-president’s fleet.

“Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta says he has not received new vehicles as stipulated in law hence forced to use old transition fleet, which State House refused to fuel.” She noted.

According to Kanze Dena, the former first lady, Mama Ngina’s security detail is yet to be reinstated after its withdrawal last year.

“Security detail of former First Lady Ngina Kenyatta is yet to be restored since withdrawal in July 2023 and fuel card for her cars have been cancelled.”
