Nyamira: Man murders mother a day after father’s burial, angry mob kills him too in revenge

Police in Nyamira County have launched investigations into the death of a man killed by a mob after he allegedly stabbed his mother to death during a quarrel over bereavement money ‘erongori’  in Irianyi, Kitutu Masaba.

Middle aged Wesley Ondieki is suspected to have stabbed his mother to death and injuring her sister using a kitchen knife after she failed to give him Ksh 500 contributed a day ago on his father’s burial.

Wesley inquired the money from his mother with a motive of purchasing marijuana with it and after she refused, he took a knife and stabbed her seven times on the chest and the stomach.

The sister to the slain woman who interposed to deescalate the situation was also stabbed in the stomach putting her on a critical condition and she is currently admitted at Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital (KTRH).

Residents of Irianyi sub location in Nyamira County, on Friday afternoon got hold of him, they accosted him, beat him and burnt him to death.

Wesley was suspected to be using hard drugs and was allegedly under the influence when he stabbed his mother.

Kemera location chief blamed the residents on taking the law into their own hands instead of relying on the authorities to follow the protocol.

“I’m urging young people to stop using drugs as they have a negative impact in our society. I’m also pleading with locals not to take the law into their own hands but instead wait for the relevant authorities to follow the law” he said.

Wesley’s body was taken to Tombe mortuary hospital in Nyamira while her mother’s body rests at Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital (KTRH).
