Man Suspected To Be A Thief Lynched, Killed In Sensi

Police officers from Marani Subcounty are investigating the killing and burning of a teenage boy, which occurred on Friday last week in Sensi, Kitutu Chache North, Kisii County. The boy was killed and burned after being accused of theft, while another suspect managed to escape. Residents of the area have complained about the prevalent use of drugs, particularly bhang, which they suspect is leading to increased criminal activities such as theft. The body of the deceased has been taken to the KTRH mortuary.

The incident took place in Omogumo village, Kitutu Chache North, Kisii County, where DCI officers are conducting an investigation. The teenage boy was killed after being beaten and burned by a unknown mob last Friday. The deceased was alleged to be part of a gang that had been terrorizing residents with theft, which is believed to have led to his death. The boy was burned on the roadside, leaving behind only pieces of his clothes, shoes, and blue gum leaves and branches that were used in the burning.

"I saw people and motorbikes approaching, and I thought they were there to buy bhang. Suddenly, we heard a house being hit and a lot of screaming—'thieves, thieves, thieves'—as people ran after them. We went out to see what was being stolen and found unknown individuals with pangas and batons, commonly known as rungu," said one resident.

The residents also reported that the same group who killed and burned the boy also burned down the house of James Nyang’au Bogongo, who suffered significant losses. The deceased youth was suspected to be a friend of James Nyang’au, which is believed to be the reason why his house was targeted.

James Bogongo stated that his 26-year-old son, who has been involved in the bhang trade for a long time, has been causing him trouble and was also a friend of the deceased.

"I used to warn him about selling bhang. Since he started, there have been many problems and troubles. I tried to persuade him to stop and take up other jobs, but he refused. I am now calling on the government to deal with him," said James Bogongo.

Residents of Sensi have condemned the mob action and appealed to the government to expedite the investigation. Our news team also visited Entanda in Munyerero ward, the home of the deceased teenager, where his parents expressed their grief but declined to make any public statements about their son's death.
