MCA Says Senators Are To Blame For Corruption In Counties

A long serving civic leader in Nyamira County now wants the senate to up its socks in fighting corruption at County levels or take the blame for the vice.

Alfayo Ngeresa who is the Mekenene ward MCA regretted that the senate has failed to nail corrupt governors despite glaring evidence as captured regularly by controller of budget and Auditor General. “Almost every week, governors are summoned to appear before senate to answer to audit queries as detected by the Auditor General. It's has now become a cash cow for the senators who are either compromised by the very suspects or earn allowances for failing to live up to  expectations of the general public", said Ngeresa.

Speaking during a live interview with Getembe TV and FM, Ngeresa who has served a 30 year period uninterrupted said Kenyans felt cheated by both the senators and governors.

“For many years the senators have been grilling suspected corrupt governors and their county teams but what do Kenyans gain from such sessions? More wastage through per diems and sitting allowances" he said.
He expressed concern that millions of tax payers’ money meant for development in counties can't be counted for as senators, with constitutional powers to supervise governor and protect devolution failing.
He singled out his own Nyamira County where he said in a certain financial year no Development place despite the budget allocations by the county.
“We felt frustrated as peoples' representatives because the budget we had set aside failed to complete any project. We teamed up to impeach governor for failing to account for the same but we were again betrayed by a few MCAs who were compromised".

The MCAs in nyamira tried in vain to impeach governor Nyaribo. At the same time Ngeresa who was first elected to the county leaders as a councillor In 1983 before transiting to the MCA in 2013, said Nyamira leadership is doomed due to infighting among elected leaders.

'The governor is ever in loggerheads with his deputy, MPs are not talking as a unit while senator and the governor are ever at war.  It's only God now for Nyamirans'.

In an early interview North Mugirango MP Joash Nyamoko, former MP Momanyi  and businessman Walter Chanua also expressed fears that nyamira had lagged behind due to a wanting leadership by governor Nyaribo.

The governor has however been blaming fellow elected leaders for undermining his leadership.

Both Chanua, Nyamoko and Momanyi expressed willingness to attend any leaders meeting convened by Nyaribo to agree on how best to team up and build Nyamira.
