Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has successfully recovered Sh 67.6 million that was deceitfully paid to a high-ranking official at the National Treasury and Planning.

This comes after Justice Musyoki of the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Division ruled that Faith Jematia Kiptis on July 15, 2025  had unlawfully received public funds under the disguise of various allowances.

She was allegedly paid money as facilitation, entertainment, and extraneous payments. These payments were made without the necessary authorization from the Salaries and Remuneration Commission.

Ms. Kiptis was ordered by the High Court to repay the sum of Sh 67.6 million and forfeit funds held in her personal accounts at Equity Bank Sh 2.4 and KCB Bank Sh6.3. Additionally, she was instructed to pay interest on the amount until it is fully refunded, along with covering all legal expenses incurred during the legal proceedings.

The investigations carried out by EACC revealed that these fraudulent payments took place between January 2020 and June 2022.

During this time, Kiptis received allowances that exceeded her job group limits and were not approved by the SRC, the sole body authorized to regulate public sector remuneration.

Justice Musyoki criticized the Treasury for sidestepping legal procedures and facilitating the unlawful distribution of public funds. The court emphasized that the advice given by the SRC is not merely advisory but legally binding.

This recovery is part of EACC's broader efforts to recover misappropriated funds, with over Sh174 million already reclaimed from other Treasury officials involved in similar fraudulent activities.

EACC remains steadfast in its mission to promote accountability and protect public resources, urging all public servants to prioritize integrity and transparency in their work.
