11 YEARS BEDRIDDEN: NYAMIRA FAMILY CRIES FOR HELP AS ELDERLY KIN BATTLES ILLNESS AND MASSIVE HOSPITAL BILL

The family of James Masaki from Tente Village, Township Ward, South Mugirango Constituency in Nyamira County is appealing for help from well-wishers after enduring years of pain, sickness, and financial struggle

.

James Masaki, aged 74, has been bedridden for the last 11 years due to a serious illness. According to the family, his condition became so severe that he could not even go outside to sunbathe. The family says they have moved from one hospital to another in search of treatment, spending everything they had in the process.

Their hope was recently restored after Hon. Phelemon Morara, who is vying for the Senate seat in Nyamira County, responded to their earlier request for assistance. He visited the family together with a doctor, who examined and scanned James before recommending that he urgently needed a wheelchair. Hon. Morara then donated a wheelchair to the family — a gesture that brought great joy and relief.

The family expressed deep gratitude to Hon. Phelemon Morara for his kindness and support, saying the wheelchair has now enabled James to move outside and enjoy fresh air and sunshine again after many years indoors.

Speaking emotionally, James’ daughter revealed that her father has undergone four leg implant procedures at the hip joint over the years. The family sold nearly everything they owned to cater for his treatment, leaving them with nothing. His wife, Florence Masaki, said they have visited almost every hospital seeking help.

Most recently, James underwent surgery at a private orthopedic hospital in Eldoret, where part of his leg was amputated in an effort to save his life. Despite the treatment, the family is now overwhelmed by a huge hospital bill.

They explained that the initial bill stood at KSh 685,000, and through sacrifice and support from a few people, they managed to reduce it. However, they still owe nearly KSh 500,000, which they are unable to raise on their own.

The family is now making a heartfelt appeal to leaders, well-wishers, and anyone with a compassionate heart to support them during this difficult time so that James can continue receiving treatment and regain dignity in his life.
