A family from Chepngombe area in Borabu Constituency Nyamira have been barred from burying their kin until a postmortem has ben conducted.

The burial service slated from today has been postponed following the intervention of security officers.

The body of the deceased Nyachae was retrieved form a dam around Nyansakia area not far from Manga police station and the body taken to Nyansiongo Mission Hospital morgue.

One of the Provincial Administration officers could later issue a burial permit to have the deceased buried today (Wednesday).

Manga area Chief James Arasa has since confirmed to Getembe Tv Digital that the burial has been postponed.

"There are legal procedures to follow when someone dies in unclear circumstances; postmortem is necessary exercise in such a matter."

Detectives have since moved to the hospital   morgue and cautioned against any plan by the family to have the body buried.

Sources indicate foul play in the manner the family has planned to carry the funeral services. "We suspect the deceased was killed before the body was dumped in the nearby damn. The body was retrieved while oozing some blood from both the mouth and noses."

The deceased's family is said to have accessed the burial on claims that they didn't have enough money to carry out postmortem, a move that has angered as section of the neighbors.

Last week, speaking during the 39th Jukwa la Usalama forum held in Kisii Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen attributed most killings in Gusii region to land disputes.

Murkomen stressed that land inheritance pressures remain the main contributor to violence in the region. “This pressure is translating into killings."

He announced plans to engage the Ministry of Lands on long-term solutions, including land consolidation and improved land management.
