KWASCO replaces GWASCO, to improve services

Gusii Water firm was established to spearhead better water and sewerage services in Kisii and Nyamira counties.Β
But this has not fully been happened owing to low investment in the previous years.
Rapid population growth, coupled with aging infrastructure is overstretching water sewerage system in the area.Β
The company was established in 2006 and is responsible for the provision of water and sanitation services to the residents of the two counties.
Two weeks ago, Kisii Water and Sanitation Company (KWASCO) was offically launched. This followed the restructuring of the Gusii Water and Sanitation Company (GWASCO), which previously served both Nyamira and Kisii counties.

Kisii Governor Simba ARati who formaly lauched the new body says the transition embodies the principles of devolution aims at enhancing service delivery.Β
"With the establishment of KWASCO, Kisii County will now focus more effectively on providing water services to its residents."
The Governor says he is dedicated to improving the quality of life for the people of Kisii County by providing access to clean, piped water.
The water supply capacity under the KWASCO stands at 18,230 cubic meters from more than eight water schemes. This serves nearly 500,000 people in the urban areas of the two counties.
The company Managing Director Lucy Wahito says the establishment of the new compnay will improve services.
"We are ready to connect more homes, businesses and institutions to our water system. This is a major milestone for our people."
