Woman Rep Donya Quick Intervention Leads To The Arrest Of Two Suspects In Defilement Cases

Three minors have given birth at Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital forcing authorities to swing into action and arrest the suspects behind the alleged defilement cases.

One of the suspects behind defilement and impregnating a 10-year old girl from Nyangusu was arrested Friday morning.

The boda boda operators and an official with the riders association was arrested after the Kisii County Woman Rep Dorice Donya made a report with police.
The who is believed to have been living a short distance from Nyangusu Police station was arrested few hours after Donya through her office Manager Happiness Oirere made a report to the sleuths.

Unfortunately the minor who delivered a bouncing baby boy lost her newborn who had placed at KTRH's New Born Unit.

The minor alleges that she had been staying with the accused for more than two years after her parents failed to offer her enough support to continue with her schooling.

An attempted abortion on the minor by people well known to her had failed forcing her to go through the complete nine month pregnancy period.

She is currently undergoing treatment and healing at the facility even as stakeholders call fro strigent measurs to curb such incidents.

The Woman Rep; Donya has since condemned the acts strongly condemn the heinous crime of defilement committed against a minors.

"It's alarming that a grown man could cohabitate with a 10-year-old and impregnate her without the neighbors alerting the authorities. I commend the Nyangusu police for arresting the culprit, and we await the due process."

She said; " Let's protect our children by reporting suspicious activities to the authorities. We are available for support."

Saturday, the officials from her office also led a team of Police officers from Mosocho in the arrest of anther suspect in the alleged defilement and impregnating a Grade Nine girl who is currently sitting for her exams from Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital.

The suspect is also a boda boda rider who is said to have had an affair with the minor. The girl gave birth four days ago at the hospital.

The two suspects are expected to be arraigned in Court on Monday as the process to carry out detailed investigations commence. 

At the hospital also is another minor who gave birth five days ago after she was allegedly defiled by an individual well know to her mother. The suspect is still at large.

According to Donya, the few cases being reported at her office are justa drop in the ocean. "We must be ready to partner and coloborate, some of the minors have Fistula and others are already infected. We have reduced FGM but defilement cases are on the rise. It is worrying."

She says, her office is set to hold a major meeting with all other stakeholders on 14th December to put up measures to curb the menace.
