Devolution is a Catalyst for equity, inclusion, and social justice;’ it sets the stage to forge strategic pathways that promote inclusive, equitable, and just governance and development across the Country.

The 9th Devolution Conference ongoing at Homa Bay School has steered waters on the social-economic growth in a number of Counties.

Homabay comes out as a center for benchmarking on how to offer governance in devolved units. The County has positioned herself prominently among the nation's leading counties and establishing a vital national platform for direct discussions on tackling challenges and implementing solutions to drive devolution forward.

The County Boss Gladys Wanga says, President Dr. William Ruto’s unwavering leadership has ensured that devolved governments are empowered to deliver essential services effectively to the people.

During the Pre-Conference guests visited the Tom Mboya Mausoleum on Rusinga Island, honoring his lasting impact on Kenya's leadership and political landscape.

The County also enjoys Crystal-clear waters, pristine white sands, and the freshest Lake Victoria fish. A visit to this breathtaking island is a must-add to one’s itinerary every time one explores this side of the world.

In the Bay of Endless Potential is the Rusinga Island that stands as the cradle of mankind and the backyard of one of Kenya's most esteemed statesmen and Pan-Africanists, Thomas Joseph Mboya.

As Kenyans the 9th Devolution Conference, the County’s Arboretum and the Amphitheatre were officially opened to the public.

The Arboretum stands as a premier lakefront sanctuary dedicated to tree conservation, showcasing a diverse array of flora and a vibrant recreational space that offers breathtaking panoramic views of Homa Bay's lakeview.

Here guests participated in the the second edition of the Roan Antelope Half Marathon , showcasing its unique role in promoting the conservation of the endangered Roan Antelope.

This event effectively highlighted the beauty of Ruma National Park and Homa Bay County as prime tourism and safari destinations, while also enhancing the experience for delegates attending conference. “We are excited about the potential for an even larger and more impactful event in the future. The participation has been crucial to the success of this initiative,” said Governor Wanga.

She said the strong participation from national and local leaders, including the Council of Governors, demonstrated the shared commitment to protecting Kenya's natural heritage.

ROAN

The experience here was made more scenic through the thrill of a game drive in Ruma National Park as the sun sets dramatically behind the Gwasi Hills. 

This park is not only the exclusive habitat of the Roan Antelope, but it also stands out as an exceptional and captivating destination for an African safari.

As the curtains came down, President Ruto visited Tom Mboya University to expand its infrastructure and student population, the demand for additional housing and accommodation in both the university and Homa Bay Town is critical.

The groundbreaking for the Tom Mboya University Students’ Village marks a significant milestone, with the construction of a 588-unit hostel designed to accommodate over 2,000 students.

The Homa Bay County Headquarters is officially commissioned by Ruto. This facility will serve as the primary hub for coordinating all county government services, establishing a strong connection between the national and county governments for concurrent services. It will enhance operational efficiency and ensure swift responses to the community's needs.
