Jubilee Party leaders from Kisii County have criticized Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei over his motion seeking to reduce or withdraw the retirement benefits of former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Speaking at the Jubilee Party headquarters in Kisii, the leaders said the Constitution must be respected, noting that retired presidents are legally entitled to state benefits and protection under the Presidential Retirement Benefits Act.

Cherargei’s motion argues that Uhuru Kenyatta has allegedly remained active in partisan politics and therefore should lose some of the privileges accorded to retired heads of state. The senator has also called for an audit of public resources allocated to the former President since he left office.

If passed, the motion could affect benefits such as pension allowances, security, official staff, and office maintenance.

Led by Kisii Jubilee Chairperson Peter Akang’a and nominated MCA Redempta Moraa, the leaders maintained that the Office of the Retired President should not be politicized or disrespected.

Moraa defended Uhuru’s leadership record, saying many projects initiated during his tenure were completed successfully, unlike some projects launched

by the current administration which she claimed have stalled.

The leaders urged politicians to uphold constitutionalism, respect former heads of state, and avoid divisive politics.
