Government-allied Gusii MPs are intensifying their efforts against opposition candidates in the upcoming mini-polls in Nyamira County, aiming for a decisive victory in the contest scheduled for November 27, 2025.ย

Their renewed push comes just days after Jubilee Deputy Leader Dr. Fred Matiangi publicly declared a contest between himself and President William Ruto in the Nyamaiya, Nyansiongo, and Ekerenyo Wards.

On Monday morning, National Assembly Majority Chief Whip Sylvanus Osoro, MPs Joash Nyamoko and Japheth Nyakundi who is also the UDA Party National Treasurer, along with other leaders, began the final phase of the campaign for UDA candidates.ย

Osoro led the team to their first stop at Nyamaiya Ward for a meet-the-people campaign in support of UDA candidate Thomas Nyandieka.ย

Osoro stated, "We will not be intimidated by anyone; the rubber meets the road. The end justifies the means. Our candidate is the most deserving."ย

The leaders returned to Nyamaiya five days after their previous visit. On Thursday, they also campaigned for the party candidates in Nyansiongo and Ekerenyo: Denis Kebaso and Francis Amenya, respectively.ย

Nyamoko expressed his unwavering support for the UDA candidate, saying, "I have no regrets; I will campaign for and vote for the UDA candidate. I was elected on the UDA party ticket and remain committed to it. I am action-oriented; pretense will not lead to solutions."

Nyakundi criticized those attacking the UDA government, asserting, "Some leaders, who have been in government for years, have nothing to show for their efforts. Hiding behind tribal politics is not only regressive but also outdated."

The three by-elections are shaping up to be a contest between candidates supported by the government and those receiving backing from parties aligned with Matiangi.ย

During a burial event in Nyamira on Friday, Matiangi announced his preferred candidates for the three wards and urged voters to support them.ย

He mentioned; "We sat at a round table and agreed to back these three individuals. My role is to provide them with the necessary support. The government machinery here is more interested in embarrassing me than in winning."

He added, "I didnโ€™t endorse the candidates myself; it is the local leadership that supports my bid and endorsed their candidacy."ย

Dr. Matiangi publicly endorsed Jackson Mogusu of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) for the Nyansiongo Ward seat, Chris Osiemo of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) for Nyamaiya, and Jeremiah Ongaro of UPA for Ekerenyo.
