Ex-Garissa Official Arraigned Over Forged University Degree

Former Chief Protocol Officer, Ms. Khadija Abdullahi Bare is facing charges for allegedly using a fake academic certificate to secure a government job.

EACC's investigation revealed that Khadija had presented a fabricated Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology and Political Science from the University of Nairobi to land her high-ranking position within the Garissa County Government.

This deceitful act allowed her to unlawfully benefit from public funds totaling Sh 6.8 million in salaries and perks.

Following her arrest on June 12, 2025, Khadija appeared in court today at the Garissa Law Courts to answer to charges of forgery, fraudulent acquisition of public funds, and presenting false documents.

She was granted release on a cash bail of Sh 100,000 or a bond of Sh 500,000 while awaiting further legal proceedings.

The EACC has reiterated its dedication to combatting the use of counterfeit academic credentials in public service, emphasizing the significance of upholding honesty in government institutions by ensuring that qualifications are genuine.

This case sheds light on the prevalent issue of document falsification in public appointments and serves as a strong message to those attempting to exploit fraudulent tactics to gain access to government roles.
