SOLEM REQUIEM MASS AT DON BOSCO UPPERHILL AS MOURNERS HONOUR MAMA TERESA NYABOKE OMONKE, SENATOR ONYONKA’S MOTHER

A solemn requiem mass celebrating the life of Mama Teresa Nyaboke Omoke was held at the Shrine of Mary Help of Christians, Don Bosco Upperhill, Nairobi, bringing together family, political leaders, and friends in a powerful show of unity and condolence.

The service attracted prominent national political figures including the united opposition principals Fred Matiang’i, Rigathi Gachagua, Martha Karua, Justine Muturi, and Eugene Wamalwa, alongside leaders from ODM including Edwin Sifuna and Babu Owino

Leaders from ODM, Linda Mwananchi and Linda Ground, were also present to confirm their attendance at the mass and convey heartfelt condolences to the family of Mama Teresa.

Speaking during the service, Dr. Matiang’i said:

"all the people present had come to stand with you(senator onyonka & family) during these difficult times and to continue praying for the family."

He added:

"may God give you strength during this period of mourning."

Martha Karua also condoled with the family, saying:

"although i did not have the privilege of meeting Mama Teresa Omoke personally, seeing how she raised Senator Onyonka and the kind of leader he has become showed that she did a great job."

She further urged the family to draw strength from her legacy, noting that Mama Teresa lived a meaningful life that left a lasting impact.

Nominated Senator Esther Okenyuri expressed her condolences, saying:

"i understood the pain of losing a mother"

She welcomed mourners to Kisii when the time comes to lay Mama Teresa to rest with dignity, describing her as a champion for the less fortunate in society. She also raised concern over the death of a student, Alice Riang’a from Suneka, urging security agencies to establish the cause of her death in honour of Mama Teresa.

Edwin Sifuna, while conveying his condolences, reflected briefly on politics, noting the challenges of political life:

political life can be challenging because there are very few people one can truly go to battle with remarking that when difficult moments arise, one may begin with many supporters but later find themselves alone.

He also confirmed that he would attend the burial in Kisii.

Dr. Matiang’i further called for peace and unity during the burial arrangements, urging leaders and citizens to uphold harmony and respect throughout the mourning period. He emphasized that leaders had set aside political differences to stand together with the bereaved family, a gesture he said reflected responsibility and African values.

He echoed sentiments previously shared by Prof. Ongeri, noting that despite political affiliations, unity had prevailed during this difficult moment.
