GUSII UNITY IN GRIEF: MATIANG’I-LED DELEGATION RALLIES BEHIND ONYONKA IN EMOTIONAL CONDOLENCE VISIT

Nyamira Senator Okong'o Omogeni joined a high-level delegation of Gusii leaders led by former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i in a condolence visit to Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka following the passing of his beloved mother, Mama Teresia Nyaboke Omoke.

The delegation brought together some of the most influential political figures from the Gusii community, reflecting a rare show of unity during a moment of grief. Among those present were veteran leaders such as Prof. Sam Ongeri, former Cabinet Minister Chris Obure, ODM Treasurer Timothy Bosire, former MPs Richard Tong’i and Ben Momanyi, as well as current MPs Anthony Kibagendi and Barongo, alongside several aspiring political leaders ahead of the 2027 General Election.

During the visit, Senator Omogeni emphasized the importance of unity among the Abagusii community, urging leaders and residents of Kisii and Nyamira counties to remain united and focused on collective progress. He further called on the region to rally behind Dr. Matiang’i, describing him as a key national political figure whose influence continues to grow ahead of the 2027 political season.

The remarks add to a growing pattern of public endorsements and political positioning around Dr. Matiang’i, as Gusii leaders increasingly align themselves in discussions shaping the region’s future leadership role at the national level.

The visit also underscored strengthening political cooperation among Gusii leaders, who despite differing affiliations, continue to demonstrate unity during moments of loss and shared community concern.
