NYARIBO–OMOGENI STANDOFF HALTS BURIAL AS FAMILY STRANDED AT MORTUARY FOR HOURS BEFORE BILL IS CLEARED BY MP MOGAKA

The body of the late Joshua Makori was finally released from Nyamira General Hospital mortuary and taken to his home in Monga Village, Nyamaiya Ward, West Mugirango Constituency, after the outstanding hospital bill was fully settled. The delay had earlier stalled burial plans and left mourners stranded for hours as confusion and tension grew at the facility.

The situation arose after the family, who had arrived to collect the body, were informed that the hospital bill had not been fully cleared, contrary to their expectations. This sparked frustration among relatives and members of the public who had already gathered for the burial, with demonstrations briefly erupting outside the mortuary as mourners demanded the immediate release of the body.

The family had earlier believed the bill had been settled, but the new revelation caused shock and disrupted preparations at a time of grief. The disagreement over payment led to delays that left mourners stranded for more than three hours, as the burial program at home was put on hold.

The matter was later resolved after West Mugirango MP Stephen Mogaka, through Constituency Manager Samson Mayaka, intervened and cleared the outstanding bill following consultations with hospital management. This ended the standoff and restored calm at the facility.

Earlier, Nyamira Governor Amos Nyaribo had promised to cover the hospital bill. However, after Nyamira Senator Okong’o Omogeni intervened to assist the family, the governor reportedly withdrew his pledge. A dispute then arose because Senator Omogeni had not fully cleared the bill as per the mortuary records.

After the bill was cleared, the body was released and transported home, allowing burial arrangements to proceed. The late Joshua Makori was later laid to rest in an emotional ceremony attended by family, friends, leaders, and residents.
