Residents and business owners around Kisii Capital Roundabout are living in fear after repeated incidents of collapsing, ageing electric poles that have already caused a fatal accident, including the death of businesswoman Grace Moraa Isoe, prompting urgent calls for Kenya Power and the county government to replace the unsafe infrastructure with concrete poles and prevent further loss of life.
Residents and business owners around Kisii Capital Roundabout are living in fear due to a surge in collapsing electric poles, which are reportedly old, weak, and unsafe, causing panic in the area.
A few days ago, a pole carrying a transformer fell and killed businesswoman Grace Moraa Isoe, with another similar incident reported shortly after. Residents say this is not the first time such accidents have occurred in the area.
They are now calling on Kenya Power and the county government to urgently replace the ageing wooden poles with concrete ones to prevent further tragedies.
"How many fatalities will it take for Kenya Power to act?” residents and business owners are asking, expressing growing frustration and fear over recurring accidents.
They are also urging Governor Paul Simba Arati to intervene and ensure safety measures are implemented to protect lives and property in the town.
