11 Students Hospitalised After Septic Tank Collapse

Eleven students from Kapsabet School for the Deaf were hospitalised after a septic tank collapsed.

According to preliminary reports, the learners had gathered near the roadside when the presidential convoy passed by the area. In an attempt to get a better view, the students climbed onto what is believed to have been an old septic tank structure measuring about 20 feet long.

However, the structure was unable to support the weight of the group and suddenly collapsed, causing the 11 students to sink into the septic tank. The incident caused panic within the school as staff and responders rushed to rescue the learners.

The affected students were quickly retrieved from the collapsed tank and rushed to nearby health facilities for medical attention. Authorities say all the students are receiving treatment, though details about the severity of their injuries were not immediately disclosed.

Officials have since launched investigations into the incident, with concerns raised over the safety of aging infrastructure within school compounds. The accident has also sparked calls for regular inspection and maintenance of facilities to prevent similar incidents in the future.
