Government has announced steps towards achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
President William Ruto has directed that all out-patient services in government dispensaries, health centres and sub-county hospitals be offered free of charge in accordance with primary Health care fund . Kenyans just need to register with SHA .
This applies to all Primary Health Care (PHC) services provided at public Level 2 to Level 4 hospitals, as well as SHA contracted private and faith-based facilities, fully funded by the Government of Kenya through the Primary Health Care Fund.
The free services include consultation, diagnosis, treatment, prescribed laboratory tests, basic radiological exams (X-rays and ultrasounds), prescription processing, drug dispensing, health education, management of chronic and acute illnesses, NCDs, STIs (including HIV/AIDS), mental health care, immunization, reproductive and maternal health services, child health care and minor outpatient procedures.
Health Cabinet Secretary Adan Duale says by removing financial barriers to these essential services, the directive ensures that every Kenyan, regardless of income or location, can access quality care without the burden of out-of-pocket expenses.
"This milestone builds on ongoing health reforms to strengthen community health systems and bring affordable healthcare closer to the people.Any co-charging for these services should be reported via Call Centre 147."
