MOGONGA MARKET IN POWER STRUGGLE AS TRADERS DEMAND UNITY AND END TO LEADERSHIP WRANGLES

Traders at Mogonga Market have condemned the ongoing leadership dispute between market officials and Chamber of Commerce leaders, calling for unity and stability in the market.

Speaking during a meeting led by boda boda chairman Job Nyabuto, the traders said they were ready to work together with Zablon Ondieki, the chairman of Mogonga Market, for the development of the area.

Nyabuto said there is a group within the Chamber of Commerce that has been formed to remove the market chairman so they can take control of Mogonga Market. He added that the people of Mogonga would not allow that to happen. He further called on the Kisii County Government to intervene and deal with individuals allegedly interfering with the smooth running of the market.

The traders said the disputes have slowed down the growth and development of the market.

One Mogonga resident, Peter, claimed that some members of the Chamber of Commerce involved in funeral service activities were behind the disagreements and urged them to stop disrupting the market leadership.

The boda boda treasurer, Victor Ombongi, said Mogonga had previously been led by different leaders who achieved very little. He noted that Zablon has made progress through cooperation with the Kisii County Government and Governor Simba Arati, adding that their collaboration helped bring development projects to Mogonga.

Residents also stated that under Zablon’s leadership, the market and a hospital had been developed. They accused former leaders of corruption and lack of achievement, while praising Zablon for what they described as good leadership and development in Mogonga Market.
