Martha Karua has advice for President Ruto
BY ELVIS OMATO
People’s Liberation Party leader Martha Karua has publicly criticised President William Ruto, accusing his administration of failing to uphold the rights and safeguard the lives of Kenyan citizens.
In a recent interview, Karua cited rising police brutality, extrajudicial killings, and the suppression of dissent as evidence of what she described as a “rogue regime” that has betrayed the Constitution.
Martha Karua is calling for the resignation of the President along with his entire administration.
This is in line with the wishes of Kenyans, who have been using the #RutoMustGo on social media and the “One Term” chant by people participating in anti-Ruto protests in Kenyan streets.Â
The PLP leader states that the protests and frustrations are brought about by matters of corruption, unconstitutional arrests and detention of government critics, police brutality, high cost of living, neglect of the needy citizens and extrajudicial killings.
The criticism comes after President Ruto shrugged off the “One term” chants by Kenyans who want the president out of office even before finishing his first term.
The president said, “If it is Ruto must go, then tell me how you want me to go. What do you mean by Ruto must go? How do I go? Because we have a constitution in place.”
Martha Karua responded to President William Ruto’s remarks by urging him to respect the will of the people, emphasising that it is the citizens who entrusted him with the presidency.
Karua told Spice FM, “Take the same route you took to get where you are. You could resign; if you truly respected the voice of the people, you would have resigned by now, with your entire government, and gone home.”
“But because you won’t, whether in 2027 or earlier, the people will remove you. You may continue to kill as you are killing now, but you cannot kill everyone,” she further added.
