Students from Nyamira National Polytechnic staged a protest early Monday morning in Itibo Ward, North Mugirango Constituency, to voice their frustrations over poor road conditions and the lack of street lighting leading to their institution.

The demonstrators cite the terrible state of the road, which they said becomes completely impassable during the rainy season, making it difficult and dangerous for them to commute to and from the institution.Β

They expressed concerns about insecurity due to the absence of street lights along the route, leaving them vulnerable, especially in the early morning and evening hours.

The students called on the area Member of Parliament Joash Nyamoko and the Member of the County Assembly Lameck Onyancha to urgently address the issues.Β

They also appeal to the school administration to be more responsive to their concerns, including reopening the institution's gate, which they claim will help them reduce the distance some of them have to walk in order to access the institution

Tensions escalated when a group of the protesting students attempted to access the office of the MCA and in the process, a confrontation occurred, and one person reportedly sustained a bullet injury.Β

The students are now urging leaders and the school management to take immediate action to improve their learning environment and ensure their safety.
