Sakaja meets the late Ojwang's family

Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has met with the family of the late Albert Ojwang at City Hall and pledged to support the family of the teacher who died while in police custody.

Ojwang had been arrested following a controversial social media post.

Yesterday, Governor Sakaja met Ojwang’s family, including his father, mother, widow, and two-year-old son at his Nairobi office.

The Governor revealed that the late Ojwang had been part of his team of influencers, regularly collaborating with his media unit.

“I have known Albert for a long time. If you look through his Facebook and Twitter, you’ll see he was a personal influencer. We will walk with his family on this journey.”

“This young man deserves justice. We will ensure his son’s future is secure and help his widow complete her studies.”

He further promised to provide employment for Ojwang’s widow upon her graduation.

“She is in her final semester, and once she completes her training, we will ensure she gets a job with the County”.

The Governor also committed to rallying friends to help purchase a plot in Homa Bay and construct rental units for Ojwang’s parents to generate sustainable income.

The Governor condemned the incident and demanded justice for Ojwang and the family.

“We want justice for Albert. His son George is too young to understand what has happened, and he will never see his father again. As a country, we cannot continue like this.”

Ojwang was arrested on June 7, in Homa Bay over allegations of false publication and taken to Magwego police station and later transferred to Nairobi, where he was detained at Central Police Station.

Police initially claimed he was found unconscious in his cell from self-inflicted injuries and rushed to Mbagathi Hospital .

However, an autopsy conducted on June 10 , contradicted this account, revealing that Ojwang had suffered severe head trauma, neck compression, and multiple soft tissue injuries. The findings suggested he was assaulted .

Police had earlier stated that preliminary investigations indicated Ojwang had repeatedly struck his head against a wall, but the postmortem results raised serious questions about the circumstances surrounding his death.
