Thieves lynched in Parklands, Nairobi

Two suspected thieves were set on fire by a mob on Tuesday in a robbery gone wrong after they allegedly snatched a phone from an unidentified woman in the area.

A chase ensued as residents tried to track down the suspected thieves. Riders in the Parklands area joined the pursuit along Second Avenue, managing to bring down two passengers while the rider fled away.
The two were captured and stoned to death by the mob and later set on fire. The police arrived moments later and found the two suspects already deceased. The bodies were taken to the mortuary, awaiting identification and postmortem examination. This is one of the many incidents taking place in Nairobi, where suspected robbers are pursued and killed by the masses.
It is unconstitutional to take matters into your own hands regarding the punishment of wrongdoers, as such an act can result in a lengthy sentence. Kenyan residents argue that this is the best way to discipline offenders, preventing them from having the opportunity to re-offend.
This is the third reported such case since Monday this week, and there is a rising concern about the incidents, as it is against the law to take someone's life even if they are lawbreakers.
The police service urges Kenyans to respect other people's right to life and calls for the need to hand over the suspects to the police for booking instead of killing them.
