In a vibrant display of tradition and achievement, Nyambaria High School recently marked its 66th anniversary, celebrating more than six decades as a cornerstone of educational excellence in Nyamira County and the wider Gusii region.
The event, held on Monday, March 9, 2026, brought together a high-profile delegation led by the Cabinet Secretary for Education, Julius Migos Ogamba, alongside local leaders including MPs Clive Gisairo of Kitutu Masaba and Steve Mogaka of West Mugirango, and Nyamira County Woman Representative Jerusha Momanyi.
Since its founding in 1959, Nyambaria High School has evolved from a modest Seventh-day Adventist institution into a national academic powerhouse. During the celebrations, CS Ogamba lauded the school for its unwavering commitment to high standards, specifically noting its consistent ranking among Kenya's elite secondary institutions.
The school gained significant national attention in 2022 when it topped the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations with a remarkable mean score of 10.89. Even as it navigates the high expectations of a top-tier national school, Nyambaria continues to be a "launchpad for greatness," as evidenced by its robust 2024 results where 677 out of 709 candidates secured direct university entry.
The anniversary was not merely an academic review but a celebration of the "Nyambaria spirit." CS Ogamba highlighted the synergy between a dedicated teaching staff and a disciplined student body as the engine behind the school's success.
The anniversary coincided with broader regional efforts, as the Ministry of Education recently invited bids for a Sh2.7 billion infrastructure push in Nyamira County, aimed at reducing classroom congestion and upgrading facilities in schools like Nyambaria.
School leaders and stakeholders used the platform to call for increased collaboration. The 66-year milestone was described as a moment of pride for the "Nyambaria family," with a strong emphasis on the role of alumni in mentoring current students and contributing to the school’s physical expansion.
The legacy of Nyambaria High School remains a testament to the transformative power of education in the region, serving as a beacon of hope and excellence for thousands of learners across Kenya.
