Gachagua accuses Ruto of sponsoring youth to block his Meru rallies

DCP party leader Rigathi Gachagua has accused President William Ruto of sponsoring youth to block his rallies in Meru County.

Gachagua says this is aimed at preventing him and his allies from addressing gatherings over the weekend.

The former DP had attended a church service in Rwarera, Meru County, where he spoke out on the matter. The DCP party leader claimed that President Ruto, through his deputy, Prof Kithure Kindiki, rallied youths to obstruct Gachagua’s completed Meru visit.

“Kindiki gave MPs Sh 3 million to pay youths to chase us away and be hostile to us in Imenti. He also paid them to light a bonfire in Tuskys, but instead, the youth began chanting ‘one-term’,” Rigathi said.

“They want to prevent us from entering Igembe; local lawmakers have received millions in payments. The MP from Tigania East even provided machetes and arrows to the youth to disrupt our rallies.” He says that when they arrived in those places, those sponsored youths were even chanting ‘one-term’ and had no business in attacking them.

He further noted that these alleged efforts had not succeeded, as the youths welcomed him and his allies with songs wherever they went.

Gachagua states that he will not be swayed by President Ruto's attempts to halt his agenda due to the loss of voter support in the populous, vote-rich Mt. Kenya region.

He has told President Ruto that he should not be angry, as he had already warned him that the people of the Mt. Kenya region do not tolerate betrayal and lies.He adds, “Forget this Mountain, it is gone forever. You lost them and should not include them in your 2027 game plan. I gave you good advice, but you ignored me.”

Gachagua concluded his three-day tour today, having visited multiple constituencies in Meru County throughout that time.
