The government will boost coffee, sugarcane and tea farming in Western region to foster its economy which is dragging.

He has released Sh500M to the Cabinet Secretary of Agriculture Wycliffe Oparanya to purchase coffee seedlings for Western farmers.

He has a program of ensuring equal income generation from sugarcane and tea.

“My program is to make sure in the next two to three years we will be getting as much from tea as we are getting from sugarcane.”

“Sugarcane farming generates Sh90 Billion an increase from Sh 50 Billion and tea farming generates Sh 215 Million”.

He pointed out the steps the government enforced to ensure farmers got better payment.

His effort is to erode poverty and create a source of income for farmers.

“If farming cannot generate income it brings poverty to a farmer.”

He consulted with CS Oparanya on the alternative ways of generating money to farmers.

“I have directed CS Oparanya to advice the farmers to participate in

Coffee farming which has increased its rate from Sh50_60 per kg to Sh 130-150 per kg”.
