Maraga grambles against state forces

Former Chief Justice David Maraga has publicly criticized the police over their handling of the Gen Z-led protests in Nairobi yesterday.

Speaking during a live broadcast while addressing the nation, Maraga condemned the excessive use of force against peaceful demonstrators, some of whom were injured or killed.

“It is extremely unfortunate that the police cannot see the problem is the police and not the protest demonstrators,” Maraga said.

He emphasized the importance of listening to the people and respecting their right to protest.

“You have no right to say no,” he added, urging the government to accept criticism rather than suppress it.

According to Maraga, a government that truly respects democracy must be open to feedback.

“The government should be ready to be criticized. Reasonable Kenyans will see where there is unreasonable criticism and voice, but by doing the exact opposite, they are losing sympathy of Kenyans who would be on their side.”

Maraga's presence at the protest and his bold statements have added significant moral weight to the Gen Z movement, which is demanding transparency, justice, and an end to police brutality.
