President Ruto Condemns Attacks on Police

President William Ruto has issued a stern warning that individuals who attack law enforcement officers will face severe legal consequences.

Speaking at State House, Nairobi, during a high-level meeting with top security and national administration officials, President Ruto strongly condemned the recent assaults on police during Wednesday's Gen-Z protests, labeling such actions a threat to national stability.

The President reaffirmed his administration's unwavering support for the security sector, emphasizing that this backing is crucial for national stability.

"We cannot have a country where criminals run after our policemen. If a policeman's life is in danger, then how can our families be safe? This trend must change."

He added, "We will stand by every man and woman in uniform and protect them as they discharge their duties. That is how we will have a more secure and stable Kenya where meaningful development occurs."

The meeting, which was attended by senior officers from across the country in the security sector occurred just three days after nationwide demonstrations led to clashes between protesters and police in several towns.

President Ruto also pledged accountability for those responsible for the violence, asserting.

"The criminals who attacked our officers and destroyed property in the Wednesday mayhem will be held to account."

He urged security officers to take the lead in promoting national security and unity initiatives.

This meeting comes amid increasing unease within the security sector, following public statements from some officers criticizing police brutality and distancing themselves from the current security leadership.

This unusual public dissent has revealed internal tensions within the security forces and sparked new concerns about cohesion and trust within the sector.
