Angry Parents and students of St. John Nywakwerema secondary school in Kiabonyoru ward Borabu constituency Nyamira county stage protests over the recent transfer of the acting school principal Shem Orioki.
Over the past years the school was performing poorly leading to the transfer of students leaving the school bare.
โThe school dropped steadily and only 18 students remained in school.
We tried our best to mobilize people to bring students to our school and up to now the school has admitted 200 students," a parent stated.
They are demanding immediate transfer of the new principal to another school or transfer their students to other schools.
โWe are urging the Ministry of Education to take swift actions and transfer the principal for the academic success of our students,โ Stem Abuga said.
They are claiming they have struggled to uplift the school and they don't want someone to disrupt the school function and bring it down.ย
The principal's age sparks numerous questions about what he will do for the school before his retirement.
โThe principal has only remained with two years in service before taking his permanent leave. What would he have done for this school before retiring? We demand for the return of the acting principal to complete the 8-4-4 system,โ a parent stated.
The students are fearing failing in their final exams due to the incompetence of the new principal.
โThe transfer might affect our academic performance in our final exams. The new principal has been opposed in more than five schools. The teacher-student relationship is disrupted," a student stated.
The area Assistant, Chief Kevin Osero requested the parents and students to calm down as they handle the matter.
โIโm urging the parents and students to maintain peace as we handle this matter. I urge the students to embark on their studies as we are coordinating with the Board of Parents and the Ministry of Education to resolve
the problem.โ
