Senate oversight team attacked in Kisii county

A Senate delegation auditing Kisii County's finances has been attacked during an official oversight visit.

This has sparked strong condemnation from Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka.

Onyonka accuses Governor Simba Arati of planning the attack to derail the Senate’s investigation into alleged financial mismanagement. 

He claims the hired goons disrupted the Senate Budget and Finance Committee’s work, which was conducted under the watch of committee members.

The Senator describes the incident as a deliberate attempt to divert public attention from issues such as procurement violations and misuse of public funds. 

He criticizes the governor for responding with violence instead of presenting a technical team to address audit concerns.

Calling the act “barbaric,” Onyonka vows the Senate will not be intimidated and will continue its constitutional oversight role regardless of resistance.

"It's the constitutional responsibility of the Senate to do it's oversight job and nothing will stop us from performing the duties that we were elected to," he stayed

He warns Arati against using violence to avoid accountability, emphasizing that the Senate remains committed to scrutinizing county expenditure.
