Embracing Modern, Low-Cost Techniques for Higher Yields

Farmers across the Kisii County participated in an empowerment program aimed at revolutionizing their agricultural practices.

The expo focused on modern farming techniques that promise increased yields without demanding substantial financial investment.

The initiative, led by the Southrith Sales Association and headed by Zephania Ooga, provided valuable insights into sustainable and profitable farming methods.

"We are here with our officials to train farmers on how to achieve high yields from their farms."

The comprehensive training covered various aspects, including dairy farming, where farmers learned techniques for raising high-yielding dairy cows, beekeeping, alongside innovative approaches to fish farming, demonstrating how utilize small land parcels for significant returns.

The outcome of the program was the farmers' keen interest in online farming resources and embracing new farming technologies.

Organizers expressed optimism that continued programs like this will equip farmers, especially those with limited incomes, with fundamental agricultural knowledge at an affordable cost, ultimately boosting their yields and livelihoods.

South Rift Sales Association emphasized their commitment to making modern farming accessible, stating, "All our company's products are offered at subsidiary low prices compared to traditional shops."

Farmers were encouraged to attend the event prepared to purchase these affordable items for their future farming endeavors.

JOSEMO Partners also played a crucial role, with their experts offering guidance on seed fertilizers tailored to specific regional conditions.

They also made their products available for purchase. Seed Co, a prominent supplier, showcased their range of maize and vegetable seeds, highlighting varieties like "Tample 73" maize, known for its five-month maturity period and high yield potential.

The mobilization efforts for the program proved highly successful, with farmers turning out in large numbers to gain essential farming knowledge and encouragement for maximizing their output.

Biologics, a company specializing in non-poisonous pest control, introduced farmers to pheromone traps, an effective solution for capturing pests that are resistant to conventional spraying methods.

Beyond specific techniques, the empowerment program underscored the importance of fundamental factors in livestock farming, such as proper feeding, access to clean water, and adequate housing.

This impactful initiative was a collaborative effort, bringing together key players like Southrith, Rainbow , Seed Co, Echochem, Unga and Farm Care.

Their combined expertise and resources aim to empower farmers in the Gusii region, ensuring higher agricultural yields and contributing to poverty reduction within the community.
