Police intensify crackdown on narcotics

A decisive police operation in Nyatike Sub-County, Migori County, led to the arrest of two suspects and the seizure of narcotics and illicit alcohol.

Yesterday, officers from Karungu Police Station intensified a targeted crackdown on drug trafficking and illegal brews in the area. One suspect was found in possession of 140 rolls, one broom, and 40 sticks of a substance believed to be cannabis sativa (bhang), while a second suspect was apprehended with 1.5 litres of a suspected chang’aa brew.

Both suspects were placed in police custody pending processing and arraignment.

In Malaba Police Station in Busia County, police conducted a successful operation in Malaba Town, arresting one suspect in possession of five bales of bhang with an estimated street value of Sh 125,000.

From Mombasa Town, two suspected drug traffickers were arrested after which police intercepted a sizeable haul of cannabis in the process.

The bust followed a tip-off from members of the public of a suspicious parcel from a bus that had just arrived at Mwembe Tayari from Homa Bay. Sensing the package might contain narcotics, they promptly alerted the police.

Acting with the precision of hawks circling their prey, officers hurried to the booking office and quietly lay in wait for the suspects to claim their cargo.

It didn’t take long. Oblivious to the fact that the law was about to crash their day, the duo identified as Pamela Akinyi Ochichi and Daniel Agolla Ogweno arrived to collect the parcel. In one swift move, officers pounced, arresting them and escorting both the suspects and their illicit bundle to the station.

"Upon inspection, the package was found to contain multiple rolls of cannabis sativa. The two are currently cooling their heels in custody, undergoing processing pending arraignment," says police
