Police in Ndhiwa have arrested a couple accused of brutally assaulting their seven-year-old son.
The child's alleged offense was stealing and eating fish from their kitchen.
The incident took place in Ramoya village, Kajwang’ Sub-Location.
The parents were taken into custody on Monday evening after concerned neighbors reported the abuse.
The young boy, a Grade three pupil, reportedly sustained severe burns to his hands. His mother allegedly inflicted the injuries using molten plastic as a form of punishment.
Kajwang’ Assistant Chief Enos Nyawade, who oversaw the arrest, stated that villagers alerted him to the child's alarming injuries.
"We established that the mother set plastic carrier bags on fire and, as the melting plastic dripped, forced the child to place his hands underneath."
Investigations further revealed that prior to this brutal act, the boy's father had forced him to eat the entire fish he was accused of stealing.
Ndhiwa Sub-County Police Commander John Losia confirmed the arrests, adding that the suspects are currently being held at Ndhiwa Police Station.
The couple is expected to face charges related to the assault.
