State Strips Off Babu Owino Security Off Amid Misuse Allegations

The Government has decided to withdraw the security detail assigned to Babu Owino, the same Member of Parliament for Embakasi East.

The Government cites concerns of misuse.

This decision has sparked debate and worry among his supporters, as it is believed that the officers assigned to him were being used for personal tasks rather than their intended protection duties.

Reports from the National Police Service indicate that an internal investigation revealed that some officers assigned to Babu Owino were not fulfilling their official protection responsibilities and were instead being used for private errands. 

The Ministry of Interior and Coordination of National Government received intelligence reports highlighting this misuse of public security personnel, leading to the withdrawal of the security detail.

Babu Owino has dismissed these claims as politically motivated, stating that the government is trying to silence him and other leaders who speak out against injustices.

 Opposition leaders have also criticized the decision, calling for the reinstatement of his security detail and warning against using state resources for political vendettas.

“This is a clear case of political persecution. The withdrawal of my security is not based on any legitimate concern, but rather a strategy to expose me to danger and discourage my activism."

The government maintains that the withdrawal is part of efforts to ensure efficient use of police officers and uphold national security priorities. 

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen emphasized the need for discipline within the police service and stated that officers should not be used as "private servants for politicians."

Legal experts have weighed in on the matter, emphasizing the importance of following due process and avoiding political bias in decisions regarding security details. 

They stress the need to protect the rights of all elected leaders, regardless of their political affiliations.

As the debate continues, there is growing pressure for a review of the decision.
