Pastors from the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Nyamira County have strongly condemned the alarming rise in alleged abductions and extrajudicial killings, reportedly perpetrated by police officers across the country.
Speaking out against the troubling trend, the church leaders voiced their deep concern over the disregard for human life and due process.
They highlighted recent incidents that have sparked outrage and fear among the populace, urging for immediate action to address these grave human rights violations.
The pastors emphasized the sanctity of life, referencing biblical principles that underscore the importance of justice and the protection of the innocent.
They called upon the government and relevant authorities to launch thorough and impartial investigations into all reported cases of abductions and extrajudicial killings.
They demanded those found culpable be held accountable, regardless of their position.
"We, as spiritual leaders, cannot stand idly by while our congregants and fellow citizens live in fear of those who are meant to protect them," one pastor stated during a press briefing.
"Justice must prevail, and every individual's right to life and a fair trial must be upheld."
The SDA Church in Nyamira has pledged to continue advocating for human rights and justice, working alongside other civil society organizations to ensure that such atrocities cease and that a culture of accountability is fostered within the national police service.
