Under a strategic operation, detectives have apprehended three individuals for their alleged involvement in orchestrating the violent attacks and looting.
This attack resulted in injuries to several individuals and significant damage to property.
The suspects, identified as John Mulingwa Nzau (known as Garang), Mark Amiani (known as Generali), and Francis Mutunge Mwangi (known as Chebukati), were intercepted while attempting to flee to a coastal hideout aboard a bus headed to Mombasa near Konza City.
It is believed that they were trying to evade law enforcement.
The DCI stated that the trio played a key role in instigating and organizing criminal activities through underground connections and social media platforms.Β
Their actions led to violent clashes, widespread looting, and property destruction, with the aim of disrupting national peace and undermining the right to peaceful assembly guaranteed by the constitution.
"Their apprehension was made possible through a thorough forensic investigation and valuable information provided by concerned citizens," the DCI said in an official statement.
"Despite their attempts to escape justice, they were apprehended."
Investigators have identified several other individuals linked to the violent incident and are actively pursuing them.
The DCI strongly condemned the suspects' behavior, accusing them of exploiting what was meant to be a peaceful protest to commit criminal acts.
"Their actions went against the true intentions of the Kenyan people who were peacefully exercising their right to protest."
The three suspects are scheduled to appear in court on Monday, where they could face charges including property damage, arson, theft, and incitement to violence and disobedience of the law.
Authorities have reaffirmed their commitment to holding accountable those who threaten public order and safety, ensuring that they face the consequences of their actions.
